I think almost all new moms have this thought in their mind. We all know how much we love our children, and how much they mean to us. But in our moments of doubt, I am sure we have all at some point wondered if our babies will ever love us back as much as we love them. We wonder at times, “Does she appreciate my love or is it one sided?”
But, the fact is, babies have their own way to express love! I am sure as a mom it’s too early to expect the tiny love bundle to say those magical three words “I love you”. But there are other ways in which a baby will let you know just how much she loves you!
8 Ways Babies Say ‘I Love You’ Without Actually Saying It
Babies have their own way of expression and a special love bond they express via signs and signals. I am sharing the signs my little one gives me that convince me how much I mean to her…
1. She Knows Me From My Smell
I remember once my baby (when she was 30 days old) was crying nonstop and my husband was trying to calm her. As soon as I took the baby on my lap, she opened her mouth and stopped crying!
Many studies say a baby identifies her mom by her smell, voice, her heartbeat, etc. The smell of breast milk is also comforting to a baby. She feels safe and happy that she is in my arms – as explained by my lactation expert.
2. Those Charming Eyes Looking At My Face
My Baby knew me by my sound and smell. Later she tried to figure out who this person is by focusing on my face too. Her eyes would lock mine in a constant gaze. My pediatrician told once that babies at the stage of infancy don’t have prominent eyesight. But they slowly start recognizing you with the correlation of smell and sound with a face. I remember when my baby copied my expressions while I use to talk to her… it definitely made me feel loved!
3. That Twinkling Smile That Touches My Heart
Soon after her habit of making eye contact, my little munchkin started smiling at me. Everyone in the family used to strive to see her smile. But, my baby smiled easily when I sang and talked to her with a gleaming face. Such moments are like medallions you earn in your journey of motherhood.
4. Turning Towards Mom
My baby and I shared a bond from the very first day she came in my womb. And I realized this around the time that she turned two months old. I would go out of the house, run my errands and return. And as soon as I stepped in through the door, my baby would turn to look at me!
5. Calling Me In Her Language – Cooing and Babbling
My baby would endearingly call for me if she lost sight of me even for some minutes. Her lovely sweet cooing sound came like music. I used to call her “mommy’s attention seeker”. She was so good at making expressions as I approached her! She sweetly smiled and started singing in her babbling voice.
6. She Just Loves To Swing In My Arms
As soon as she sees me she waves her hands at me so that I pick her up. With a smile and sometimes with an attention seeking tearless crying, she would demand to be picked up! It made me go ‘Awww!’ and hug her.
7. Magic To Put Her To Bed
It’s only me who has the magic to give her a peaceful nap on my tummy. I remember when she was 6 months old, she would lie down on my tummy and sleep peacefully. Whoever tried to put her to bed would fail, only I could do it!
8. Those Drooly Kisses
I know it’s funny but you can’t say no when your drooly baby’s lips try to touch your cheeks, forehead, nose, etc. This special way to say “I love you, momma” never fails to amaze me.
There are many more ways in which my baby made me feel special – touching my cheeks with her soft chubby hands, holding my finger in her tiny hand, giggling endlessly on the funniest faces I made and so on. I know my baby likes many family members and friends too but she loves me endlessly. She may like others but she loves me, and has a special place for her mom (and dad too) in her heart!
Here’s a secret I have discovered, moms: If ever you wonder whether your baby loves you or not, you only need to see yourself from your baby’s eyes!

So well said! I totally echo your thoughts. As these babies turn into kids, they show some less signs. The tend to sleep on their own and eat on their own. Although it gives a happy feeling to see them grow, at the same time, we loose few of our touch points. I think that’s what the life is all about!

Really blessed with my angel. After reading the article I agree completely and know that what my children do mean so much to them as it does to mean. Being a mother is the most wonderful experience.

This post made me smile from ear to ear. True tiny tots have their own ways of showing love. I remember she giggling with me when I made funny voices. And give wet slurrpy kisses during cooing session between mom and daughter.
