Benefits of Vitamin D for a Woman’s Life

During my school days, I came to know that the Vitamin D is a very big immune boosting agent in the human body comes from Sunlight. We all have grown up with a key fact that sunlight is the richest source of Vitamin D. However, considering the lifestyle we all lead it’s not possible to use this natural source of Vitamin D to optimum level. Life within tall and hidden buildings have taken away the benefits of this perfect source of Vitamin D.

Vitamin D

A constant feeling of sickness, increased hair fall and dull skin made me visit the doctor. To my surprise the blood tests revealed a lack of Vitamin D in my body which was responsible for this ill health. On my doctor’s advice I started with Vitamin D dietary supplement and started getting exposed to early morning sunlight for natural intake as well.

This was not just the end of my research on “Sunshine Vitamin”. I kept reading and researching and here I am today sharing some important benefits of Vitamin D in a women’s life.

1. Vitamin D is the friend of your hair:

I did not believe at first that the reason for my hair fall these days is Vitamin D deficiency. Then my physician explained to me that Vitamin D 3 helps your body make more hair follicles which leads to new hair growth.

2. Sunshine Vitamin is an immune booster:

If your Vitamin D levels are appropriate you are less likely to fall sick, no season change or any other reason will affect your body as you are immunity is high.

3. Vitamin-D has anti-aging benefits:

Now this surprised me for sure, but it’s true Vitamin D acts as a hormone in our body and because it fights with many infections and supports the immunity it also works on anti-aging issues in a woman’s body.

4. Vitamin-D makes your bone stronger:

This we always tell our kids that eat eggs and drink milk as your bones need to be stronger. But, we moms many times forget the same for ourselves.

5. Vitamin-D helps you lose your weight:

This is again a surprising benefit of Vitamin D that it acts as a hunger suppressant and you tend to lose fat or weight quickly.

6. Vitamin-D helps you remain sexually healthy:

Vitamin D is very well known as the sexiest Vitamin. As we know the women’s body is complex to understand, and the sexuality is affected by many factors like emotional, physical, physiological and behavioral. Vitamin D helps hormonal production in the body so this supports the nervous system, bone health, immunity and cell growth which collaboratively impact sexual life.

7. Vitamin-D fights with depression:

My physician suggested that if someone is facing or experiencing issues like anxiety or depression is sure because of Vitamin D deficiency. Because Vitamin D supports mood lifting and keeps depression away.

Vitamin D

How much Vitamin D you need?

It is really important to know how many levels of intake are adequate. Here is a small table to help you understand it better.

Sno. Age Adequate intake – IU/day Safe upper level IU/day
1 Age 0 to 6 months 400 1,000
2 6 to 12 months 400 1,500
3 1 to 3 years 400 2500
4 4 to 8 years 400 3000
5 9 to 70 years 600 4000
6 71+ years 800 4000

But, if you are not getting enough good and safe sun exposure every day it is must have 1000 IU/day for kids and adults as suggested by my physician.

Also, the physician advised going for VitaminD3 supplements rather than D2. Vitamin DVitamin D3 supplements are also known as Cholecalciferol, is a form of Vitamin-D that the body manufactures when skin is exposed to sunlight. It’s converted from Sunlight a food source into its active form, calcitriol, by the liver and kidneys.

I so agree with you for a woman to have a pain free and healthy bones and overall health its imperative that they have enough Vitamin D in their body. Either by taking supplements or by ensuring daily exposure to sunlight which seems like a distant dream. It’s much better to consume some kind of supplements.

I actually get seasonal depression in the winter because it gets so cloudy and cold where I live. I do take a vitamin D3 supplement but I’ve also found that using a Happy Lamp which imitates the sun has been really helpful as well.
