Newborns have highly sensitive and tender skin; this is also because a newborn, for the initial few weeks, have a wax-like coating on his/her skin. This coating automatically is scrubbed off with time. But, you need to remember one thing here is that you need to take care of your baby’s skin and by following some rules you will be able to do that effortlessly.
Bathing
Bathing your baby very often is a wrong practice because the baby loses the natural body oil in this process; as a result, the baby’s skin becomes flaky and dry. You can bath your baby 3 to 4 times in a week and that too in lukewarm water; also, use mildest of the soaps/shampoos available in the market. After you have given a bath to your baby, ensure that you take the baby to a warm environment to dry him/her so that the baby does not catch a cold. Dabbing the wet skin with a soft cotton towel is the best way of drying your baby.
Take Care of Diapers
After several hits and trials, you will know which company’s diapers suit your baby’s skin. There are some diaper brands that can irritate your baby’s skin and can cause rashes. However, one of the best ways of ensuring that your baby does not get diaper rashes is by changing the diaper as soon as the baby takes a leak; this will ensure that your baby does not get bacterial or yeast infection in his/her private parts because of moisture. You can also use a topical barrier cream which will prevent any kind of infections from prolonged exposure to urine & moisture.
Powdering myth
Do you know that it is not important to apply powder to your baby’s skin if you have dried your baby (after the bath) properly? Well, this is a fact. Also, if you must use powder, do ensure that you do not use a scented powder as they contain chemicals to infuse that scent in powder.
Dry skin
Some babies face the problem of dry skin, right from their birth time. You can apply natural moisture to the baby’s skin; some great examples of natural moisture would be coconut butter/coconut oil, shea butter, etc. You also need to take care of the fact that you do not expose your baby’s skin to water or soap directly; always use a sponge to rub your baby.
Do not compromise on brands
I cannot stress enough on the point that you cannot compromise on the products and the brands that you use on your baby’s skin. Do not fall into the trap of marketing gimmick where larger companies are selling products that might not be great for your baby’s skin. Instead, use natural and homemade products, as much as possible. Just go online and find some great brands for baby products listed at CouponzGuru; if you are lucky you might be able to grab great discounts on your purchases, as well.
Other Day-to-Day Tips
- Do not make your baby sit in direct sunlight for long hours.
- Do not dress your baby with already worn clothes; always use fresh and washed clothes.
- Wash baby clothes with gentle soaps & detergents.
- Always apply moisturizer to a baby’s skin after bathing the baby.
Conclusion
The kind of care you provide to your baby’s skin now will determine the skin quality of your kid when he/she grows; give healthy skin to your baby.
