Baby’s First Flight

Baby's first flight

Baby’s First Flight

I remember when My baby was just 2 months old and it was our Baby’s first flight from one city to other. I was happy but, more worried as for how will I handle my crying baby, What all should I carry in cabin baggage, ear pressure etc. I read some articles and asked few friends but, was still not confident enough. Today, I am going to share some important tips worked for me on our Baby’s First Flight.

1. Plan a travel day as per baby’s routine:

While planning Air-travel with Baby always keep in mind, Baby has a routine time for sleep, feed, and play. So book a flight as per baby’s routine. Well I know it’s a bit difficult cause the sleeping pattern of a baby constantly changes. But, as a mom we can judge the sleeping pattern of our baby so in my case I always prefer daytime flights as I know my baby can take nap during flight.

2. Keep necessary documents:

At the time of Air-travel with Baby security may ask for some important documents for baby. Birth certificate Passport is the most important documents you must keep during your journey along with tickets.

When you are travelling with a newborn for the first time, you major attention is required by your baby. I would suggest keep all necessary documents well in advance to avoid any chaos.

3.Baby Carrier:

Baby's first flight

Baby’s First Flight

This is a very good option to hold the baby as you will carry along diaper bag and food bag while travelling with Baby. Wear your baby with a comfortable baby wearing gear. This will also help you during security checks if your baby is sleeping and uncomfortable you can hold the baby as close as you can. Just make sure you do not wear an additional layer underside the carrier because during the security check they may ask you to remove it.

Baby wearing will also help in giving support to your baby’s neck and back.

4. Plan your seat well in advance as this is Baby’s first flight:

Buy a separate ticket for your baby if possible, And carry the car seat along it is the safest way, fasten the seat-belt let your baby sit comfortably. While planning a trip, Opt for a corner seat or a window seat. Window seat gives you space and a cover while breastfeeding the baby whereas the corner seat may be handy in case you wish to use lavatory along with you baby.

5. Keep important items in cabin baggage:

A mom knows her baby batter than anyone else plan your cabin baggage as per the need of your baby. Diapers baby wipes, Formula mix and a bottle of water, if a baby is 6+ month then you must have something to feed baby like cereal mix, few baby toys to keep baby happy and engaged. You can keep baby’s earmuffs or baby’s ear plugs to reduce noise.

Keep extra diapers and a diaper changing sheet in the bag, As well at least a pair of comfortable and easy to change dress for your baby. Do not over stuff your cabin baggage.

6. Feeding your baby in-flight:

For infants and new born you should keep breastfeeding your baby during landing and takeoff as it helps in reducing the ear pressure. For 6 month above always keep a snack cups or cereal mix with you. For toddlers keep 2 or three snack items in properly lid snack cups or boxes this will give them healthy food to eat and keep the toddlers busy as well.

7. Do not hesitate to ask for help:

If you find it difficult to manage your baby always ask for help while making baby feed or changing diapers. Most of the airline hostesses are baby friendly and will definitely assist you when you need. Everyone understand need of a mom who is flying with a baby.

I wish you have a safe and happy journey with your baby. I hope the tips I shared in this post will help you plan your vacation with your baby. Do not worry about the glares and comments if fellow passengers pass. Just ignore and enjoy the happy moments and stay calm in irritating ones. This is your baby’s first airplane ride do not miss to take selfies and pictures.

Do share your experience of baby’s first plane ride.

Happy journey.

Great post and will be handy for a lot of moms. You know for booking flights with a baby, you can request for front row or incase of international flights, ask for a bassinet seat. That has ample leg space and the crew will fix the bassinet after take off is complete so your baby can sleep in it.

I have traveled alone to India with both my kiddos before they turned One and got compliments too from my co-passengers for being so patient.:-) I can understand what you must have gone through. It’s overwhelming when there is so much of information coming from different sources. Apart from packing, I have learnt one thing for sure…we have to be flexible as things may get not go the way we plan it. In that state staying calm and patient is the key. We want to keep the baby happy.
