Mamta maternal love
I was up at 7, Shubhra came to me, “Didi, Coffee for you.” She was holding a tray with 4 cups. She said “You be ready, we have to start Haldi then Mehndi in the evening. A lot of work I have to do follow-ups with a decorator, caterer. I really need your help. ” I was sipping the coffee, I nodded in yes. The aroma of coffee was refreshing for my lazy nervous system. Shubhra is an awesome cook Sachin use to say when they got married. We all in the family always fond of her welcoming nature and her lovely Coffee. I could see her running around in the house and instructing florist for decorations while having my coffee. I know Shubhra and her emotional side so well I only see her face lite up with Mamta maternal love.
“Common ladies lets do our Haldi ceremony, Swati didi where are you”. She called. I replied “Shubhra I am here see I was preparing Haldi Ubtan for our darling. She specially requested me, Masi, I wish you to make my Ubtan.” She smiled and hugged me. I said, “Ok, Ok now go and call the girl for the event ,Where is Sakshi?.” From the corner of the room, I heard”I am here Masi”. Sakshi looked shiny, a serene glow on her face, a yellow and a white shaded saree she looked just beautiful. Shubhra held her hand and put kala tikka behind her ear, Her emotions, Mamta maternal love was evident on her face.
We all started the ceremony, I could see the Mamta maternal love and emotions filled eyes of Shubhra which she was trying to hide behind her glittery smile.
Before Mehendi event, I went to Shubhra room, I wanted to check for a few things before the function. I opened the door “Shubhra, what time Mehndi artist will come and by what time Sakshi should be ready. ” I saw her eyes were red and watery. Shubhra was sitting near her dressing table with a box in her hand. She smiled at me, but I could see this was a false attempt to hide her tears she is trying to do. “Didi, Please come, see this box you remember mom gave both of us on our Mehndi.” I nodded and sat near her on a chair, “Yes, I remember”. Shubhra opened the box she said I am giving this to Sakshi today. The Kangan inside the box were holding same years old beauty in them. I kept my hand on hers and asked: “I know you are missing Sachin.”
She replied, wiping her tears “Yes, very much”. She continued, “It was his dream to have a baby girl.” I could see the love filled with emotions, the feeling of emptiness in her voice.
Before 25 years…………..
Sachin lost his life in a war. He was a reporter for a TV channel. At the age of 28, he got a challenging mission of reporting live from Afghanistan. And In a random bombing, his entire crew lost their lives.
Shubhra had been just 26, They both loved each other since their Graduation days. Initially, Mom and Dad were not ready for their relationship Later they agreed and got them married. Shubhra was 5 months pregnant when Sachin went on his assignment.
This deadly news affected Shubhra so much physically, emotionally and mentally that she lost her baby. She was a strong girl and she joined an NGO. They use to work for villages affected by natural disasters like flood, earthquake, and drought.
Once she was posted in some flood affected village in UP. She got her duty in Medical camp. Where they got a lady in a labor condition. Her situation was critical and Doctor on duty suggested urgent surgery to be performed. Lady has lost her entire family already, no one was there to take care of her. Doctor performed surgery and a beautiful baby girl was born, but unfortunately, the baby lost her mother. Everyone in the medical camp was sad. Shubhra could relate to this feeling of a loss what the child was going through as she recently lost the love of her life. She went ahead and took the baby in the rescue van and went to the city. At city hospital, she got all her health checkups done. The baby was fine, she took help from her NGO staff and adopted the baby.
It was the weekend when me and mom we were waiting for Shubhra to come back from her camp. Shubhra entered with the gleaming eyes holding that cute little baby in her arms. We were shocked to see, moreover, mom was worried and she asked: “Whose baby is this”. Shubhra happily replied, “Mine, she is my baby, Sakshi”. Mom definitely resisted for some days as she was not happy with her decision.
But life was not that easy for Shubhra and Sakshi. At the age of 5, Sakshi diagnosed with Hepatitis and Liver was badly affected. Mom and Shubhra’s in-laws, everyone started blaming her for this. Her mother in law asked her to stay away from them, she tagged Shubhra with the title “cursed women”. Shubhra did not give up her strength she kept moving. Her heart has only one aim to follow Mamta maternal love. Me and my family got settled in the US then I tried to help her but couldn’t do much. I started searching many pediatric specialists in the US. Had discussed the case with them and they suggested to have some more time for Liver transplantation.
Slowly, slowly the things started deteriorating and ultimately had to go for transplantation. With God’s mercy liver of Shubhra matched with Sakshi. Doctor suggested that they will take a piece of Mom’s liver and transplant to baby this way she will have a new life. I asked her “why ” once “Didi, what is required to give a birth struggle for nine months and baby gets life from mother right that’s what Sakshi will get from me after this transplantation. “
I came to India to support my sister, she already has gone through so much. After recovery in the hospital for almost 4 months, Sakshi came home. Shubhra called many friends and relatives She called her in-laws, but they totally abandoned her now. She was happy and strong.
All her savings and Fixed deposits were spent on Sakshi during her illness.Still, Shubhra had high hopes from life. She started working for , another NGO and slowly and gradually she became financially independent again in a few years. She gave Sakshi the best education and upbringing.
Today Evening …
I was looking at Mehendi on Sakshi’s hands it was beautifying her bridal looks.Girls around her were giggling the lovely music around was making the evening more lively. I saw Shubhra in green saree I had tears in my eyes. This was the same saree she wore on her Mehendi ceremony. I went ahead and hugged her she saw my eyes. She whispered, “Hold them we will need them at Vidai ceremony”. I hugged her again.
Tomorrow it’s the wedding day. Everything is planned and organized so nicely. Shubhra has invited many guests and friends. Her staff was helping her in arrangements. I am happy for her, my family was arriving in the night. I wish and pray for her more happiness.
Shubhra was strong but many of us collapse in such phases of life. Bringing new life to this world does not only mean giving Birth naturally. To be a mom you need to have the motherly emotions the real sense of “Mamta maternal love”.
To be a mom one must have Mamta maternal love at first place in your heart.
