Story Mamta – August 15, 2017

I bring you a new inspiring story of Amma. A lady who has Mamta in her heart not only for one or two kids but for entire village.

“How are you feeling today? Amma” Doctor Kishor started Amma’s wrist examination. “I am all fine Doctor saheb, I am sure you should discharge me. I will be fine if I will go back to my home.” The doctor smiled and started checking Amma’s BP. Amma kept lying on the bed as she was since 15 days.

After some time Doctor Kishor called Sarpanch Ji RaoSaheb for discussion of Amma’s health. “RaoSaheb, we have to do surgery urgently, the tumor is big and after surgery, Amma has to stay in the hospital. We do not have much advance technology here in Rajmachi, she needs to be shifted to Pune” RaoSaheb joined both his hands “Doctor saheb, Please tell me how much money is required, I phoned Amma’s Son, I was not able to talk to him but, I have left message on his answering machine.” RaoSaheb’s eyes went watery.

“I am trying to get aid from trustee’s, I myself had some savings of mine after all this we still need 6 lakh rupees for her complete medical care.”Doctor Kishore replied and held RaoSaheb’s hand. “I am in debt of Amma’s generosity it’s her beneficence I am a doctor today and serving my village. Her Mamta has changed my life”.

Amma was a teacher in a Government school during her young times. She was just 25 when she lost her love of life because of lack of medical facilities in the village. She took a pledge, that she will make Nandan, her son a Doctor. She was always helping and encouraging to all. She helped villagers to set up their own livings, proper health and sanitation facilities in the village, financial help, with her work and efforts soon a bank also opened a branch in the village. Entire village respect her like a mother and she keeps helping others with Mamta the motherly emotion in her heart.

For guidance, domestic issues, financial help and what not, Amma has all solutions ready for all. Every villager respects Amma like God Mother.

RaoSaheb in some hope again dialed Nandan’s number. But, No answer he could only do is leave the message after the beep. RaoSaheb with some courage and a fake smile went to see Amma. “Amma see I got some fruits for you.” RaoSaheb said and trying to look away. “RaoSaheb, Did you called Nandan ?” asked Amma with hope on her face. RaoSaheb replied with teary eyes “Amma, I am sorry I was not able to speak the call went unanswered.” “It’s ok I know Nandan must be busy he is a Big Doctor in London. I am sure he will call back” rubbing her eyes and hiding her tears behind her smile Amma said, “I remain worried about his health he is so busy, don’t know if he gets time to eat or sleep.” RaoSaheb could understand the emotions of Amma clearly. He did not wish to break in front of Amma, he came out of Surgical Ward. He straight went to Doctor Kishor’s Cabin and broke into thousand pieces.

The day’s kept passing, Amma’s condition was not improving somehow it got stuck in between no progress at all. All ward boy’s and Nurses became so friendly with Amma. All knew about the story already. Amma is a legendary personality in the village.

RaoSaheb ritually kept calling and left messages for Nandan on the answering machine twice every day.

October 19th, 2017

RaoSaheb came to meet Dr. Kishor. “Doctor saheb, I met all villagers yesterday and I could manage to arrange this amount now.” handed over a paper and he folded his hands, with teary eyes requested. “RaoSaheb Don’t worry even I got an approval of 1Lakh from an NGO for Amma’s treatment.” RaoSaheb replied wiping his tears “Doctor saheb we still need 3 lakh”.

Dr. Kishor looked worried and they kept discussing the options in and outside Rajmachi to arrange money.

“Amma, time for your BP check” Nurse came with BP monitor. “Amma you look so fresh every day, tell me what is the secret of this Glowing skin” Sister was trying to cheer up Amma. Amma Smiled and replied, “My Nandan has a lovely skin you know, It is from his father”. With some memories, Amma looked happy she breathe deeply and moved to her memory lane.

Few more days passed

“RaoSaheb we are still falling short with 1Lakh Rupee”. After calculations on a Paper Dr.Kishor replied.”This is difficult entire village has contributed, and now we do not even have anyone to ask.” RaoSaheb replied with his helplessness.

8th November 2017

Ward boy Suresh came running to sister Lalita “Sister did you see news Govt. has banned 500Rs and 1000 Rs note in our country, from tomorrow these notes will be paper.” Sister Lalita replied, “Any news on 100Rs Note I keep only small notes, Else you have to face so much drama in getting them change at Rajmachi.” Sister was changing the I V of Amma. Out of curiosity, Amma Asked “What if someone just has 500Rs Notes? I wish Nandan shouldn’t get troubled”. Suresh eagerly replied, after all, some one shown interest in his breaking news “Amma Govt has given some time to go and deposit money in bank accounts and we can physically also go and get the notes exchanged”. Amma looked satisfied with the answer.

9th November 2017

“Amma a good news for your” RaoSaheb wished, after months he has a smile on his face. Amma smiled back. RaoSaheb said “Today Nandan picked the call he transferred 11 Lakh to your account, I am so happy today with Deva’s (God’s) grace now we can smoothly get your treatment done in Big hospital” Amma smiled the glow on her face looked serene, Her face looked so fresh as if she heard the news of giving birth to Nandan.

“How’s is Nandan, Did he asked about me?” Amma asked before RaoSaheb could reply she added: “I am sure he will book his tickets and will come to see me soon”. Tears falling from her eyes looked like dewdrops on petals.”I just have this last wish left now, If I can see Nandan.” her eyes were kept flowing with happiness. RaoSaheb replied, “Amma, don’t worry you will see the son of Nandan also.”

Dr. Kishore entering the ward “Amma, Congratulations my Trustee’s has sent me cash of 6 lakh”. Sister Lalita said “Thanks to Demonetisation”. All were smiling and were discussing how to use this amount for Amma’s better treatment. Sister Lalita said as she opened BP monitor “Amma you never tell me the secret of your glow. Look today you look so beautiful ” and she kept the stethoscopes on Amma’s chest. She screamed “Dr. Kishore………………”

Amma’s face looked calm her eyes were stuck on Dr. Kishore. Her emotions and Mamta was evident and making her face gleam. All were saddened entire Rajmachi was in tears.A lady with mamta in her heart for all is no more.

Amma’s wrist had a small piece of note for Nandan. Dr. Kishore handed that letter to RaoSaheb. RaoSaheb Cried his heart out while reading and posted the same very next day to Nandan.

There in London

Nandan received a letter .

“My son Nandan,

I know you are so busy, And I know I may not be able to see your face again. So, I am writing this last letter to you.

Nandan I miss you so much, I miss those moments when I use to hold your finger and take you to temple and school, I Miss your lovely shiny face when you played in rain, I miss those days when I use to cook your favorite food.

I miss everynight when I Kissed your forehead and you said Good night. I wish for just one hug .

When you were a small boy I used to take care of you, your food, your health etc.

I hope you are taking good care of yourself now as well. It’s a foreign land I am sure you miss your mom so much. After you gone Rajmachi became foreign land for me too. I pray for death every day as I cannot live without you.

But, you promise your mom that you will take good care of yourself. Promise me you will never feel negative in your life. I am happy to have you as my son and I feel so proud of you when people call me Nandan’s Mom.

I will pray and always wish to see you happy. If God Allow, I wish to be your mom in all my births.

Lots of blessing’s and love to you from my heart.”

Your Amma.

I love the way you weave stories with such emotional touch. This is a great piece and I almost had tears reading this. There are so many parents I feel who does like this without seeing their kids who are settled in abroad but parents don’t stop loving their kids. I wish Amma could see Nandan before she took her last breath. Keep up such good work Jiya.
